You Don't Get a Do-Over on This Decision

A private conversation that turns confusion into confidence — before you're in the chair.

Most people hear terms like "toric" and "multifocal" for the first time in a rushed fifteen-minute consult, then have to decide. ClarityIQ gives you a private, guided conversation first — on your own time, at your own pace — so you walk into that appointment already understanding what you're choosing between.

The Real Problem

It Isn't the Surgery. It's the Fifteen Minutes Before It.

Cataract surgery itself is one of the most common, most refined procedures in medicine.

What trips people up is the lens decision that comes with it — and it's permanent. Here's what that can look like:

  • More nighttime glare and halos than you expected
  • Still reaching for reading glasses you were told you might not need
  • Never knowing which questions to ask, because you'd never heard the terms before

That's usually nobody's fault. It's a math problem.

Fifteen minutes is not enough time to absorb words like "toric" and "extended depth of focus" for the first time — and make a decision you'll live with for the rest of your life.

That's the gap ClarityIQ closes — not by telling you what to choose, but by making sure you understand what you're choosing between, before that conversation happens.

The ClarityIQ Difference

What Changes the Moment You Begin

No More Midnight Googling

Every scattered search, replaced by one real conversation

No more sorting through contradictory forum threads at 11pm, wondering what you're missing. One guided conversation, built around your specific goals — not a generic search result — leaves you with real answers instead of more open tabs.

No Stake in Which Lens You Pick

A straight answer, with no reason to steer you

No commission. No bonus. No quota. A board-certified surgeon with no financial stake in which lens you choose — so what you hear is built to help you understand, not to move you toward any particular option.

How ClarityIQ Works

Built From a Curated Library, Not the Open Internet

ClarityIQ isn't a general chatbot improvising its way through your questions. Every fact it can share — every lens option, every consideration — comes from a single library built and personally reviewed against FDA documentation and clinical sources, not the open internet.

That's what keeps the conversation accurate instead of improvised: it can only tell you what's actually in that library.

One of the only education experiences built entirely around IOL decisions — not a general assistant repurposed for healthcare, and not left to guess when a question falls outside what's known.

Common Questions

Before You Begin

Is this medical advice? +

No. ClarityIQ is an educational conversation, not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation. Nothing here replaces your surgeon's evaluation of your eyes and your medical history — this is meant to prepare you for that conversation, not replace it.

Will it tell me which lens to get? +

No — and that's intentional. We don't have access to your eye exam, your medical history, or the clinical details that go into that decision. What we can do is make sure you understand your options clearly enough that the conversation with your surgeon is easier and more productive.

Is this actually AI? +

Yes. You'll be speaking with a guided AI conversation, not a human. We tell you this clearly before you begin, because we think that's the honest way to do it — not something to bury in fine print.

What happens to what I say? +

Nothing is recorded or stored. No audio, no transcript. Your summary is generated, shown to you once, and emailed to you once — we don't retain the conversation or the summary after that.

What if I'm not satisfied? +

The IOL ClarityIQ Session is backed by my personal guarantee: complete the program, and if you don't have increased clarity on your options, reach out — we'll schedule a follow-up conversation to walk through your questions with Dr. de la Presa. If your understanding still hasn't improved after that conversation, you'll get a full refund within 30 days. The IOL ClarityIQ Starter doesn't currently include this guarantee.

Understanding Your Options
What's the difference between monofocal and multifocal lenses? +

Monofocal lenses focus clearly at one distance — most people choose distance, and use reading glasses for close-up work. Multifocal lenses are designed to provide a fuller range, including near vision, but come with a greater chance of noticing halos or glare at night. Neither is "better" — it depends on what matters most to your daily life.

What is a toric lens, and do I need one? +

Toric lenses are built specifically to correct astigmatism — without one, astigmatism isn't addressed regardless of which other lens category you choose. Whether you need one depends on your specific eye, which is exactly what your surgeon confirms at your exam.

What does "premium" or "advanced-technology" lens actually mean? +

It refers to lens categories beyond the standard monofocal — multifocal, EDOF, and similar options that offer a fuller range of vision but usually involve an out-of-pocket cost beyond what insurance covers for standard surgery.

Do advanced lenses mean I'll never need glasses again? +

Not necessarily. Even with the most advanced lens, you may still want glasses occasionally for one specific task — that's a normal outcome, not a sign anything went wrong.

Why do some lenses cost more if Medicare covers cataract surgery? +

Medicare and most insurance fully cover standard surgery and a standard monofocal lens. Advanced lens categories are considered an upgrade beyond medical necessity, which is why they typically carry an out-of-pocket cost — a real factor worth understanding as you weigh your options.

"You shouldn't have to make this decision with fifteen minutes and a list of unfamiliar words."

Choosing your lens isn't like choosing glasses. Once it's in, it's in — for the rest of your life. Most people are asked to make that call in a rushed fifteen-minute window at their surgical consult, often hearing about their options for the very first time.

I'm Dr. Martin de la Presa, a board-certified, fellowship-trained cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon who has performed more than 12,000 cataract procedures. Over those years, I kept watching the same thing happen: a person, dilated and a little anxious, hearing words like "trifocal" or "toric" for the first time — and being expected to weigh a permanent decision in that same moment.

I built ClarityIQ so that moment doesn't have to be the first time.

Today, I'm also a Primary Investigator on active clinical research into next-generation lens technology — so what you'll hear here reflects what's actually being studied and refined right now, not something written once and left on a shelf.

You shouldn't have to make this decision with fifteen minutes and a list of unfamiliar words. Now you don't have to.
